Antique Art Nouveau French Pewter Floral Vase By Frédéric Debon
About the Item
A very important Art Nouveau "L'étang" large ovoid pewter vase, circa 1900 by Frédéric Debon, French sculptor known for his Japonisme work that was often edited in bronze by Susse Freres. This model of the vase was exhibited at The salon de la Société des Artistes Français in 1902 held in Paris.
The vase is decorated with relief and round shaped decoration depicting a water pond scene wth various animals and flowers: two frogs, one sitting on the edge of the top of the vase, and another one on the bottom, water lilies, bird in a fly close to the right handle, dragonfly, water flowers. The handles of the vase are also decorated in a form of the iris flower in a full bloom and another one with beautiful leaves of water lily growing out from the bottom and ending near the artist’s signature.
This remarkable piece is both an extraordinary example of an Art Nouveau period and Japonisme in France.
The vase has the original liner inside (Please see the images) and bears a foundry stamp and artist’s signature. The vase is signed 'F. Debon' on the top of the vase with a bronze stamp: Susse Freres, edituer Paris with blackmisth tools symbol.
