About the Item
This fine hardstone cameo depicts a woman or men wearing a wreath of ivy. In Greek and Roman mythology the ivy wreath worn around head was the attribute of a followers of Dyonisos and Baccus, the gods of wine , ecstasy and fertility. The cameo was carved in the late 1700's. It was mounted in a silver pendant mount dating fom the fist decades of the 20th century.
