Pair Dancing Monkeys Costumed Iron Figurine Candelabras Scully & Scully
About the Item
Originally sold by Scully & Scully, this is a fascinating and eccentric pair of substantial iron dancing monkey sculpture candelabras. The pair is composed of a lady monkey and a gentleman monkey; she wears a yellow and black polka dot dress; he a matching waistcoat with a white shirt and bowtie. The clothing seems to float on the breeze as they dance with vaudevillian gusto.
Scully & Scully opened as a luxury boutique on Park Avenue in the midst of the Depression era. The store remains an iconic landmark for those gifted with exceptional taste.
Each is 16" high. One measures 8.5" from the candle holder edge to edge, and the other measures 8.1/4".
Each is poised on a 4" by 4" square base, ¾" tall. Both exhibit small losses. Keyword: small. No dents or damage.
We suspect this beautiful pair was created near the 1940s. While we have seen one solitary piece for sale at an online auction platform, it was in sorry condition. And it was just the one.
