Ancient Greek 3rd Century BC Hercules Lion Coin 22K Gold Ring
About the Item
An interesting and rare authentic ancient Greek coin from the Greek colony of Taras in Calabria (now in southern Italy) depicts Hercules wrestling with the Nemean lion during the first of his 12 labors. He was assigned these tests or "labors" by Eurystheus, the king of Mycenae, as penance for his crimes committed previously when he had been driven mad by Hera, the queen of the gods. This coin has been set in an ancient-inspired handmade ring designed by Steven Battelle ornamented with double twist wire accents and 3 large "jawan" or granulation. This ring is sized 6.5. It comes with a laminated coin certificate of authenticity.

After a chance trip to SouthEast Asia in 1987, Steven Battelle became fascinated with the jewelry and iconology from the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Asia. Eventually forming a partnership with a dedicated group of Balinese village goldsmiths using painstaking handmade techniques, they together create unique designs that incorporate those timeless and classic motifs. He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
