About the Item
Beautiful antique Renaissance style 18K gold ring featuring a fine large oval natural Persian cabochon turquoise gem exquisitely set in a floral filigree setting composed of eight yellow gold flowers and eight white gold flowers with ruby centers. The sides engraved with foliate and scroll motifs. Fine, complex workmanship, beautifully proportioned cocktail ring.
Turquoise has been revered as an amulet for good health and fortune for centuries. Ancient Egyptians adorned themselves with turquoise jewelry and called the gem Mefkat which translates to Joy and Delight. Fine turquoise carvings were created in China thousands of years ago where the striking color was admired for its similarity to Kingfisher feathers. It is the national gem of Tibet and has been extensively used as a ceremonial medium.
Turquoise is the birthstone for December.
The turquoise cabochon measuring 13mm by 9mm by 4mm, lively blue-green color, in excellent condition commensurate with age.
