About the Item

A Pink Conch Pearl, Diamond and Enamel Gold Ring in the Candy Collection by Jewelry Designer, Sarah Ho. This 17.75ct pink conch pearl is set between four tension set F VS diamonds of total 1.06ct in an 18kt rose gold ring with white enamel bands. This off-round conch pearl is a beautiful soft pink color weighing at 17.75cts, this is a very large example of a rare conch pearl. The Ring is an English Size M - if you require a different size, we can accommodate this for you. The Conch Pearl is approximately: 15.4 x 14.3 x 11.2mm Conch pearls are a type of non-nacreous pearl from a gastropod mollusc. All pearls are formed by an irritant that is trapped in the soft lining of a shell - usually in a bivalve shell, such as an oyster, layers of nacre cover this irritant to form a pearl. In a gastropod, these are shells that are coiled, such as that of a snail, the irritant causes the calcium carbonate and conchiolin to build up forming these brightly colored, chatoyant gems. (Chatoyant is the optical reflective effect - like that of a cats eye or silk) The crystalline microstructure reacts beautifully with the light - creating a “flame” across the surface. Natural Pearls are rare, but conch pearls are incredibly rare - they are produced by Queen Conch Snails in the Caribbean. About one in every 10,000 conch shells produce a pearl, and only about 10% of these are of gem quality. This item comes with a certificate from GCS stating the Conch Pearl is 17.75ct with very good lustre. Pastel-hued pear drops and bonbon-like pearls combine with candy cane styled gold to create the confectionary of the Candy collection. Morganites, conch pearls and colored diamonds conjure the delicacies of candyfloss, lemon drops and toffees with enamel stripes twirling into lollipops-like stripes. The Candy collection continues Sarah’s fascination with colored gemstones, this time, with the added element of enamel to enhance the design.
