Art Deco 1920s Platinum Old Cut Diamond and Sapphire Openwork Panel Ring
About the Item
An Art Deco diamond, sapphire, and platinum ring, comprising one large old European cut diamond, sixteen smaller round cut diamonds, and four elongated calibre cut sapphires, set in platinum, to a platinum band.
This sensational ring is set to the centre with a round, old European cut diamond. The diamond is held within a bezel setting, with millegrain edging. The diamond is bright, white, and sparkly, with excellent clarity and colour. The principal diamond is set such that it appears to be floating at the centre of the ring. Two sets of 3 diamonds are set above and below the central diamond, within geometric settings, adding a fan-like motif to the piece, a classic Art Deco design. Four calibre cut sapphires add a flash of colour to the ring, shaped as shallow arcs; synthetic sapphires such as this were a favourite in the 1920s. Elegant openwork is used to give the ring negative space, adding to the design, and allowing the geometric design to stand out further. Small round cut diamonds adorn the shoulders of the ring, leading to a band of plain, polished platinum. This ring is perfectly glamorous and encapsulates the Art Deco era perfectly. The ring is in good condition, with some wear to the settings, as would be expected for a ring of this age, with all stones secure in their settings. The band of the ring may have been replaced at some point in the ring's life. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The head of the ring measures 13mm high and 17mm wide. The band measures 1mm wide at the back.
