George III Sterling Silver Coffee Pot Likely by Charles Wright
About the Item
A George III sterling silver coffee pot with a wooden handle likely by Charles Wright of London. The pot features what could be described as Rococo period repousse swags and floral sprays which were often seen in art and design during the mid 18th Century. To the front of the pot is a crest and arms for the Stirling family of Ireland as detailed in the 1905 edition of Fairbairn's Book of Crests. To the underside of the pot are crisp hallmarks for London manufacture in 1770, during the reign of George III. The maker's mark of 'CW' is likely for the London maker Charles Wright, however there are several makers who had similar marks during the 18th and 19th Centuries. In lovely condition with the normal minor abrasions and signs of wear associated with a piece of silver being 250 years of age. A beautiful example of English silver from the height of the Georgian period.
