Esplanade Avenue

Family Home by Lee Ledbetter and Associates in New Orleans, LA

Lee Ledbetter & Associates was hired by a repeat client to renovate an early 19th Century home on Esplanade Avenue – the French Quarter’s downriver border. The architects returned the home, which had been divided up into apartments, to its original plan while enlarging openings between existing parlors and a spacious side entry hall. Cased openings, crown moldings and baseboards were carefully matched to remnants found in the building. The design took advantage of very high ceilings and windows on adjacent facades, and the result is an open plan with public spaces downstairs and the master suite and guest rooms upstairs.

The architects selected a black and white palette to highlight the generous proportions of the rooms and the abundant natural light. Custom furniture by the architect is combined with 18th and 19th C. antiques. Several of the mirrors are original to the house.
