Salvador Dali Leda Armchair, Sculpture

About the Item

Leda armchair designed by Dali manufactured by BD. Structure in polished cast brass varnish. Measures: 47 x 60 x 92 H.cm Year: 1935-1937 Taken from “Femme á la téte rose” 1935 (Woman with a head of roses). It was sufficient for this sculpture to be made as a three dimensional piece, remaining faithful to every detail in Dalí’s painting. Dalí affirmed: “A chair can be used even to sit on, but only on one condition: That we sit uncomfortably.” We can sit on the Leda, but due to the fact that it only has three legs and that the chair is heavy, it being made of solid brass, is more a work of art than a functional piece of furniture. © Salvador Dalí, Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, Barcelona, 2017. Each exquisite piece is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans, infusing it with a sense of individuality and artistry. The process of creating each item ensures that no two pieces are exactly alike, as subtle variations and unique characteristics emerge through the artisan's touch. These distinctive qualities may manifest as slight differences in texture, small scratches, or variations in the brass finish, serving as a testament to the authentic craftsmanship and the human element invested in every creation. Furthermore, as part of the inherent charm of these handcrafted pieces, some variations might present themselves as occasional stains or slight tone differences on the surface, adding to the allure of their uniqueness. Embracing these variations, our handcrafted pieces must be considered sculptures, each one telling a story of the artisan's dedication and evoking a sense of timeless elegance that cannot be replicated by mass-produced alternatives. These nuances celebrate the organic nature of the crafting process and contribute to the character and soul of every item, elevating it from mere decor to a cherished masterpiece in its own right.

Measures: 51 x 190 x 61 H.cm During the ‘thirties in Paris, Salvador Dalí surrounded himself with a circle of friends involved in the application of art to varied disciplines, above and beyond the study of pure pictorial art. Jean-Michel Frank, a furniture maker and decorator of recognized prestige in the Paris of those years, was on very good terms with Dalí and together they worked on several ideas. The Bracelli lamp which we present here is a Classic design after Jean-Michel’s manner of designing and working, adopted by Dalí for his house at Portlligat. Amongst Dalí ’s specific furnishing projects, and constituting another for his curriculum vitae as a designer, may be counted the garden furnishings...
