Elizabeth Roberts Architects
Beach House Modern

In beachy Bellport, New York, the namesake founder of Brooklyn-based Elizabeth Roberts Architects transformed a 1930s summer cottage into a year-round getaway for her family and a remote studio for her 25-year-old firm. “Driftwood-clad columns and a sunken living room came with the house,” says the architect. “So, the furnishings responded to the architecture to create a space that feels a little nineteen seventies but entirely modern.” To craft a seamless and timeless look for the minimally adorned blank-canvas space, Roberts chose mid-century classics in white, including an Eero Saarinen Womb chair and a pair of Louis Poulsen Yuh floor lamps. Loïc Bard’s carved-wood Chair Bone II, a contemporary sculptural piece with a Brancusi vibe, and a grand piano add contrasting focal points in black, while a Robin Hill painting adds a dash of oceanic color to the hearth. “Art is an essential part of any room,” Roberts notes. “And I love how the cobalt blue electrifies the palette.”
