Upstairs, Downstairs

For a family home in South London, the natural light that streams through its double-height windows greatly influenced Studio Ashby’s design. Founder Sophie Ashby envisioned a living area split between two brightly lit floors: downstairs, an open-plan living-dining area leading to the kitchen, and up the main stairs, an entrance hall, formal reception area and home office. Borrowing hues from the greenery just outside, Ashby punctuated the living area with verdant accents, including bespoke pillows from her Sister by Studio Ashby line and a Ladies & Gentlemen Studio Myrna light from 1stDibs. She encircled the custom coffee table with more 1stDibs selections: sheepskin-covered Wulff chairs from &Tradition and a Tacchini sofa in a Sahco bouclé. Nearby, a Galvin Brothers banquette and Capsule Ingot table blend with vintage rosewood chairs and a Philip Maltman diptych, all from 1stDibs. “The soft-colored walls and pale oak floors were ready and waiting for a medley of strong shapes, vibrant patterns, characterful furniture and, most importantly, compelling artwork to make the space come alive,” Ashby says.
