Residences. Resorts. Restaurants. Fabrics for Pierre Frey. Floral headpieces for Dolce & Gabbana. What doesn’t Ken Fulk design? Famed for his magical, masterful mix of color and pattern, the dapper designer — who has a staff of 100 in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco offices — also knows how to conjure drama within a restrained color palette. In the dining room of an 1865 Gothic Revival farmhouse in Healdsburg, in California’s Sonoma County, Fulk channeled, he says, “the simplicity of a bygone lifestyle with pieces that feel as though they have been passed down through generations.” These include Windsor dining chairs and an antique oak-and-bluestone pastry table sourced from 1stDibs. An ebonized-walnut sideboard by Holly Hunt, also from 1stDibs, conveys both solidity and fluid movement, thanks to its undulating Baroque Revival–style front accented with subtle gilding. “The oversize hand-woven-wicker pendant creates a compelling tension with the thin-branch sconces that flank a moody landscape painting, harmoniously introducing nature into the space,” Fulk explains. “The fun is finding the contrast. I love showing familiar things in a different light.”
