About Kari McIntosh Design

Since founding Kari McIntosh Interior Design (KMD) in 2008, Kari has become one of the leading interior designers on the San Francisco Peninsula. Known for her enthusiasm and resourcefulness, Kari’s road to design was hardly conventional. After earning a business degree from Cal Poly, she started her career in the corporate world, as VP of Equities Events at JP Morgan Chase. Kari credits the experience as a project manager for her expertise in executing projects on time and on budget. Accurate projections, realistic timelines, and efficient time management were critical at JP Morgan and are at the heart of her job as an interior designer.

While at JP Morgan, Kari enrolled in UC Berkeley’s School of Interior Design and Architecture and completed two summer internships in the hospitality design field. Though the apprenticeships were invaluable, she quickly realized that working with people in their homes, creating spaces they loved was more intimate--and more rewarding.

In 2008, Kari traded in corporate life for the creative world of interior design and started her own firm. Her work has been published in House Beautiful, Traditional Home Magazine, CA Homes, Gentry Magazine, Silicon Valley Magazine, AD.COM, Town & Country, 7x7, Rue Magazine, among others.

Kari has participated in numerous design showcases, including the Traditional Home Napa Valley Showcase and San Francisco Decorator Showcase in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Kari is LEED AP certified and is an ASID Allied Member. KMD was honored with 2017 and 2016 ASID Design Excellence Awards in Kitchen Design, Bathroom Design, Residence (under 3,000 square feet) and Singular Space - Showhouse (for The Traditional Home Napa Valley Showcase) and Singular Space - Nursery. She is also an active member of the ICAA.

Kari lives in San Mateo with her husband and son.
