1970's Madame Grès Haute Couture Beaded Embroidered Ivory Sheer Silk Bridal Gown

About the Item

An unforgettable and incredibly rare Madame Grès haute couture ivory silk goddess bridal gown dating back to the mid 1970's. This ethereal look was also lavishly embellished by Lesage; a French embroidery house globally known as the best in the fashion world. His atelier is now part of Chanel through the company's subsidiary, Paraffection. Madame Grès (1903-1993) was a remarkable couturier in the 20th century, known for turning ordinary fabric into Greek sculptures. The drapery of her dresses also showed her technical virtuosity. This stunning gown has so much detail, you can tell it was made with loving devotion. The alluring beaded bib bodice has impressive sheer bishop sleeves. I adore the suggestive nude illusion aspect of this garment, the ivory silk is semi-sheer and she created a skin colored silk lining. My favorite designer element is the opulent beadwork; this picturesque scene must have taken weeks to complete. The flattering column silhouette gives this such an effortless easy-to-wear spirit. Grès had an extraordinarily long career. Through each decade, which encompassed huge changes in fashion, her work remained consistent and timeless. We needed to add many detail images so one can appreciate the masterful achievement. This museum quality designer dress resonates powerfully today, not only because of its intrinsic beauty, but also because it is an important aesthetic work of wearable art for any unconventional bride or red carpet. Measurements Bust: 32-33 inches Waist: 27 inches Hips: up to 36 inches Total Length: 56 inches This Madame Grès haute couture dress is in wonderful condition with no serious damage or alternations. Presents beautifully. Perfectly working hand set metal-zipper and interior nude silk lining. The level of work in this piece would only be found in the highest couture of today. Only sign of wear are one small semi-sheer mark by the bottom hemline. Highly wearable and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.

  • Vintage 1970 Mainbocher Couture Vogue Documented Hot Pink Flocked Silk Dress
    By Mainbocher
    Located in Beverly Hills, CA
Gorgeous Mainbocher couture shocking pink abstract floral dress dating back to his 1970 collection. As shown, this design was modeled by Loulou de la Falaise for Vogue magazine. Mainbocher was a well-respected couturier who operated fashion houses in Paris and later New York from the 1930's through the 1970's. Mainbocher's arrival in New York coincided perfectly with the city élite's love for French couture, for though he epitomized it, he satisfied their patriotism because he was actually an American. The integrity of luxurious fabrics, intricate cut, quality workmanship were cherished by Mainbocher's upper crust customers. This mid 1960's dress is a perfect example of his genius. The fabric is a lush mid-weight velvet flocked silk satin. The 3/4-length sleeve buttons down bodice really compliments the classic nipped-waist silhouette. The dress can even be worn as a dramatic jacket if you choose to leave it unbuttoned. You get the effect of elegance and edgy at the same time. I love the sculpted mermaid skirting which really moves beautifully when worn. As Mainbocher once said "I have never known a really chic...

    Located in Beverly Hills, CA
Gorgeous Madame Gres haute couture two-piece dress ensemble dating back to the mid 1970's. Madame Gres felt that the true job of the couturier was not to create a name for one's self, as many designers do, but to pay rigorous attention to the clothing. This stunning navy-blue sheer silk organza dress has so much detail, you can tell it was made with loving devotion. The bodice is a unique cap-sleeve hourglass nipped-waist design with figure flattering attached sash-belt. The sash can be wrapped around in a cummerbund style or pulled back as a waist-tie. The sparkling holly berry novelty hand-done bead work really makes this piece modern and relevant. The work itself must have taken weeks. The full swing-skirt finished this dress off with an effortless romantic vibe. Grès had an extraordinarily long career, working until the late 1980's. Through each decade, which encompassed huge changes in fashion, her work remained consistent and timeless. Any one of her elegant gowns...

By Gianni Versace, Gianni Versace Couture

Gianni Versace was an influential Italian fashion designer who founded the Versace brand. In the fall of 1997, he presented his couture collection in Paris, which was widely acclaimed for its opulent fabrics, bold prints, and intricate detailing. The collection featured several notable pieces, such as a black evening gown with a plunging neckline and a gold-encrusted jacket. However, just a few days later, on July 15th, 1997, Gianni was tragically murdered outside his Miami Beach home. Despite his untimely death, his contributions to the world of fashion continue to be celebrated, and his legacy remains an inspiration too many. This collection is iconic as it’s the final collection before his passing. The collection very much showed a new direction for the house. Which was heading away from the bombshell curves and souped-up sex appeal that the house previously focussed on. But took more Inspirations to the new wave John Galliano and Mcqueen were leading.
