Created in China during the early years of the 20th century, this side cabinet features a rectangular top with central planked boards, sitting above an elegant façade made of two doors. These doors are adorned with carved panels in their upper section, showcasing scrolling furniture on which various vases are displayed. These motifs, carved in low relief, are surrounded by a gilded frame contrasting beautifully with their reddish brown lacquer. The doors, made of slightly raised panels in their lower section, are fitted with ornate brass hardware: the medallion is pierced and etched and supports delicate pulls. These doors open to reveal a lacquered interior with hidden drawers at the top. The cabinet's sides presents recessed panels and the back is simply planked. An antique Chinese Qing Dynasty period elm wood coffee table from the early 20th century, with hand-woven rattan top inset, square legs, open apron and pillar strut motifs. Created in China during the late Qing Dynasty period, this coffee table was originally made from a cut down Lohan bed, also called an opium smokers' bed. The table showcases a rectangular top with hand-woven rattan inset and slightly tapering edges, sitting above an open apron accented with a regular rhythm of pillar strut style motifs. It is raised on four sturdy square-shaped legs giving great stability to the ensemble. The design is the same on all sides, the table will be able to float in a room and be seen from all angles. We review all of our pieces and address issues we may find before they leave for your home; however, this is an antique piece, and as such it will keep its character and some imperfections, which is the quintessence of antique and vintage furniture. An impressive pagoda form carved hardwood display cabinet with bone and boxwood inlay, crafted for the Peranakan (Straits-Chinese) community in Southeast Asia, mostly likely Malaysia, Indonesia, or Singapore, early 20th century.
The large display cabinet with four wide open shelves for display, set on four clawed feet, and surmounted by a peaked roof topped by a tiered pagoda with carved figures to the interior. A further set of pagodas with figures adorns each corner.
The peaked roof decorated with a pair of magnificent phoenixes in flight flanking a large peony spray and a roundel featuring the goddess Magu and an attendant. The decoration of carved and inlaid boxwood. Clouds of carved bone scattered throughout. The sides of the roof each with a pair of sinuous dragons among clouds, a "shou" (longevity) medallion between them, all of carved and inlaid boxwood.
The sides of the cabinet decorated with images of carved and inlaid boxwood birds and flowers - the left side with peony, the right side with chrysanthemum.
