Tobia Scarpa Large Italian Mid Century Cocoon Nuvola Chandelier Flos, Italy 1962

About the Item

A large cocoon Nuvola chandelier by Tobia Scarpa for Flos designed in the 1962 and crafted in the early 1970s. Perfect vintage condition. In the realm of mid-century modern design, few pieces encapsulate the era's essence quite like the Nuvola pendant light by Tobia Scarpa for Flos. This iconic lighting fixture not only illuminates spaces but also serves as a testament to the innovative spirit and aesthetic sophistication of its time. At the core of the Nuvola chandelier lies an intricate blend of materials and craftsmanship. Its defining feature is the cocoon covering, a delicate yet durable material that gives the chandelier its ethereal aura. Wrapped around an inner metal frame, the cocoon adds a soft and dreamlike quality to the chandelier's illumination. The metal rod framework that supports this cocoon provides both stability and visual harmony. It ensures that the chandelier maintains its form and structure while showcasing its unique cocoon exterior. A black painted metal hemisphere detail graces the lower and central parts of the diffuser, underscoring the meticulous attention to detail. Tobia Scarpa, the brilliant mind behind the Nuvola pendant light, conceived this masterpiece in 1962. Scarpa was known for his innovative approach to design and his ability to harmoniously blend form and function. In the case of the Nuvola Chandelier, Scarpa's vision translated into a luminary work of art that redefined the boundaries of what lighting fixtures could be. Produced by Flos in the 1970s, this completely original Nuvola lighting fixture continues to radiate its elegance today. Despite the passing decades, it stands in excellent vintage condition: Its cocoon covering remains untarnished, free from any scratches, cuts, or damages, showcasing the durability of both its design and materials. Measuring 94cm in width and 65cm in height, the Nuvola chandelier commands attention in any setting. Its impressive dimensions, coupled with its refined aesthetics, make it a striking focal point in spaces of all sizes.
