About the Item
This framed 13.5" x 13.5" charcoal and conte drawing by artist James Cobb captures a ballerina in a seated, relaxed pose. The work is on toned gray drawing paper matted behind a dark sage mat in a black frame. Cobb, an academic realist, uses live models to capture his figural studies and travels often to capture his vivid landscape images.
James Cobb has worked out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma for the last two decades. Until recently he maintained a studio in Taos, New Mexico. His work is executed in oil when painting and charcoal and conté when drawing. He paints from life and hosts a life drawing session every week for artists around the state. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter including still-life, landscapes, portraiture, and figures.
