In the manner of Herman van Swanevelt (1603-1655).
Title: An Italianate Landscape.
This work closely relates to a group called the Italianate painters. These were a collective of 17th-century northern European painters, principally Dutch, who travelled in Italy and consciously adopted the style of landscape painting that they found there. They also along incorporated Italian models and motifs into their works.
Chief among the Italianates were Bartholomeus Breenbergh, Jan Booth, Nicolaes Berchem, and Jan Asselijn. Italianate landscapes are often viewed as idyllic representations designed to pull the viewer into another world.
