About the Item
Original Watercolor of the British Ship "Kate" Out at Sea c.1890s to 1910
Beautiful original watercolor , ink and gouache on paper of a British Clipper Ship with full sails and flying the British flag and a large pennant dedicated to "Kate", the ships name.
The seas are high and the sails are full of wind. The skies are blue and white, and the sea is frothy and white on top, and dark and turning on the below. There appears to be a lighthouse on land in the distance. Figures on board tend to the needs of the large ship.
This is a fine maritime painting. The condition is quite good with minor discoloration, possibly from the frame. The frame is lightly distressed. Please review all images as they show the painting in its true condition.
The painting measures 24" x 18". The frame measures 34" x 28.25".
This will look fantastic in your office, library, or coastal cottage.

- Canyon CountryBy Lu HaskewLocated in Loveland, COCanyon Country by Lu Haskew Pastel 16x20" image size Landscape view of the Grand Canyon ABOUT THE ARTIST: Lu Haskew 1921-2009 "Life is good to me. Being able to go to my studio five days weekly and paint for several hours, living in a supportive community, having family and friends who encourage me--all have contributed to helping me become an artist. Being fortunate to study with some of the artists I admire has kept me painting from the garden, people and my favorite things. With the support of galleries, teaching and doing demos, how could I do anything else? My goal is to try to be the best I can be by always being a student, looking for new ideas and stretching my horizons." Upon retirement from a 33-year teaching career, Lu rented a studio in Loveland and began concentrating on her oil and watercolor painting. Learning from artists she had followed and admired throughout the years her painting became a full time career. Since 1992, she has studied with renowned painters Richard Schmid, Clyde Aspevig, Joyce Pike, and others at the Scottsdale Art...Category

- The Jurassic Coast, Dorset.By Ruskin SpearLocated in Cotignac, FRAn English watercolour on paper coastal scene signed with initials 'RS' bottom right. Presented in its original gilt wood frame under glass with trade label to the backboard from Deighton’s Strand Gallery. This gallery was well-known during the 1930s as fine art dealers and frame makers – it was located off Trafalgar square. Though he often signed with his full name Ruskin Spear's work on paper 'Hammersmith Grove' is signed in the same initials as our work and hence the attribution. This work is also stylistically similar to his other drawings of seascapes and coastal landscapes. This is a charming and fresh view of a coastal landscape probably the Jurassic coast of Dorset or his beloved Cornwall. The vertiginous composition gives it an angular almost abstract form highlighted by the contrast between the colour of the rockface, the vegetation and the blue sea. The work is in nice condition and wonderful to have the original framing. Initially influenced by Walter Sickert, the Camden Town Group...Category
