Albert Radoczy
Pregnancy by Albert Radoczy

1965

About the Item

A nude drawing and gouache highlighting the pregnancy mystery. Signed Radoczy, 1965. Albert Radoczy was a painter from the NY Tristate area, most notably in the 1960s and 1970s. Radoczy was a master at exploring the female form. Throughout his career, his drawings and paintings depicted women with images ranging from realistic to whimsical, sensual to spiritual and from ethereal to hallucinatory. Albert later opened noteworthy design firm, Habitat Associates with Warren Nardin and later Paul Mayen. Habitat designed modern furniture, lighting and architectural elements such as fabrics, wallpaper, and accessories. They worked directly with architects and designers and were included in “Good Living” - a series of exhibitions and publications curated by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His solo work has also been exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art (Annual Exhibit 1962), the Brooklyn Museum (Print Exhibit 1962), the MoMA Lending Collection (1965) and the NJ State Museum.

  • "Mighty Resignation" Black and White Contemporary Drawing by Mac Mechem
    Located in Pasadena, CA
This Mac Mechem's drawing features a seated nude man draped in a small loincloth. Sitting in a wood-crafted chair, his gaze fixed downward as though he were brooding over some bad news. Despite the defeatist posture, his physique radiates a stark contrast—the sculpted body exudes strength and athleticism through pronounced abdominal lines, robust thighs, and defined biceps. Both hands rest passively on his knees, amplifying the sense of resignation portrayed in the artwork. The artist signed in the lower right part of the artwork. Mac Mechem, a figurative contemporary painter...

  • Pondering being Naked - Sexy Girl taking off Bikini - Female Cartoonist
    Located in Miami, FL
This work clearly has homosexual overtones which in the mid-'40s was as daring as showing nudity. I am not sure if this was the artist's intention but the salesgirl and the model look identical and she signs it twice Shermond. Added to this is a strobe light effect where the model's image is partly replicated giving the impression of 2 figures. She's lost in thought pondering the notion of removing the bows and seeing the consequences. Meanwhile, the sales girls ( perhaps her alta ego - perhaps an admirer ) eggs her on. Caption: "You can always remove the bows if you think they're too fussy." Cover cartoon for unknown publication - Signed "Shermund" twice in the lower right image, dated on verso, and captioned in graphite in the lower margin. Original Matte and not framed - Barbara Shermund...
