About the Item
Using ceramics on top of paper, the artist creates a textured feeling in this abstract painting. His process includes collages of strips of canvas and paper, and possibly other materials, as well as scarring the surface of the painting in a very deliberate and obvious way. The effect is to underscore the markings of time. The painting has an elegant frame and has been signed by the artist on the front.
Jaime Suarez is one of the most important living contemporary artists in Latin America. Suarez is an architect, sculptor, ceramicist, visual, installation, and public artist. His public art commissions are in Europe, the USA and the Caribbean, including the iconic totem designed for the Quincentennial Plaza in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. His work is in major international museums and important private collections. Among his degrees are a B. Arch from Catholic University in Washing, D.C. and a master’s in Urban Design from Columbia University in New York City.
