Colorful modernist geometric still life collage by Dallas, TX artist Evita Tezeno. This collage work depicts a still life featuring tulips and a bowl of a variety of fruits such as green papaya, apples, pears, and an orange. The subjects are arranged against different abstract and geometric pattern cutouts. Signed by the artist on the right side of the painting. Framed and matted in a thick light golden frame.

Artist Biography: Evita Tezeno (b. 1960) is a Port Arthur, Texas native and graduate of Lamar University. She lives and works in Dallas.
Tezeno's collage paintings employ richly patterned hand-painted papers and found objects in a contemporary folk-art style. Her work depicts a cast of characters in harmonious everyday scenes inspired by her family and friends, childhood memories in South Texas, personal dreams and moments from her adult life—and influenced by the great 20th century modernists Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, and William H. Johnson—scenes of joy animate her vision of a Black America filled with humanity.
As the recipient of the prestigious Elizabeth Catlett Award for The New Power Generation, Tezeno has built a career as an acclaimed multi-disciplinary female artist. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the African American Museum of Dallas and the Embassy of the Republic of Madagascar, the Pizzuti Collection, Columbus, OH; Bill and Christy Gautreaux Collection, Kansas City; and Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection, Palm Beach; among others. A set of four (4) holograms by Chuck Close. "Self Portrait" is a set of four (4) self portraits in blues and blacks by contemporary American artist Chuck Close. The work is numbered CC(13)4 and is editioned 13/23 with 2 PPs. The holograms are unsigned. The dimensions listed are for each of the four (4) holograms, and they are framed separately. Chuck Close is an American painter and photographer who achieved fame as a photorealist, through his massive-scale portraits. Though a catastrophic spinal artery collapse in 1988 left him severely paralyzed, he has continued to paint and produce work that remains sought after by museums and collectors. Throughout his career, Close has endeavored to expand his contribution to portraiture through the mastery of such varied drawing and painting techniques as ink, graphite, pastel, watercolor, conte´ crayon, finger painting, and stamp-pad ink on paper; printmaking techniques, such as Mezzotint, etching, woodcuts, linocuts, and silkscreens; as well as handmade paper collage, Polaroid photographs, Daguerreotypes, and Jacquard tapestries. His early airbrush techniques inspired the development of the ink jet printer. Working from a gridded photograph, Close builds his images by applying one careful stroke after another in multi-colors or grayscale. He works methodically, starting his loose but regular grid from the left hand corner of the canvas. His works are generally larger than life and highly focused. Close has been a printmaker throughout his career, with most of his prints published by Pace Editions, New York. He made his first serious foray into print making in 1972, when he moved himself and family to San Francisco to work on a mezzotint at Crown Point Press for a three-month residency. In 1986 he went to Kyoto to work with Tadashi Toda, a highly respected woodblock printer. In 1995, curator Colin Westerbeck used a grant from the Lannan Foundation to bring Close together with Grant Romer, director of conservation at the George Eastman House. The artist has also continued to explore difficult photographic processes such as daguerreotype in collaboration with Jerry Spagnoli and sophisticated modular/cell-based forms such as tapestry. Fillipus Sheehama's latest large-scale sculptural textiles have grown out of an exploration of recycled materials and their link to overconsumption. The materials are sourced from under-maintained and largely impoverished areas of Namibia. His artistic process has evolved to incorporate organic waste materials. Indigenous makalani fruits are often used as a food source and to brew alcohol. In these works the discarded makalani piths are cut in half and hand-stitched together alongside flattened metal bottle caps and shards of animal bone. The use of these discarded materials also points to the agricultural processes that sustain subsistence farmers. Sheehama highlights issues of land (re)distribution as years of Apartheid and colonialism carved up and cut off access to much of the arable land in Namibia, leaving the majority of the population scrambling for resources. The patchwork of different materials and textures speaks to the segregation of land and people, and the need to use our natural resources and knowledge to unify for a more just and fair society.
Each artwork is both a reflection of society as well as a critique of contemporary living. He is preoccupied with ideas of wholeness, thinking about the relationship between individual and collective identity.
