Gerich No. 7, 1984, by Karl Gerich of Bath - Playing Card Print Sheet
Located in Meinisberg, CH
Karl Alexander Gerich (English, 23.4.1956 - 4.1.2016) Gerich No. 7, 1984 - Etching - Sheet 47.2 x 21.6 cm - Plate 39.5 x 14.6 cm Worldwide shipping for this object is complimentary - There are no additional charges for handling & delivery. Finished, uncolored print likely to be a spare sheet (over production), which were never used. Note Karl’s humor: Queen of hearts is carrying a shopping bag, reminiscent of Margaret Thatcher, who Karl admired (NOT). The jack of hearts is holding a Rubik cube, the jack of clubs is holding a can of lager and a glue sniffing bag and the jack of diamonds is playing an electric guitar. Except for creases in the margins, the sheet is in good condition and suitable to be framed. Karl was a brilliant playing card maker and certainly one of the most genius artist-craftsmen I had the pleasure to learn about his work and know. He could do it all: Come up with the tale, weave meaning(s) into it, fill it with spirited characters of his liking, draw it, etch it, print it, colour it and handcraft the inks, paper and card into wondersome packs of playing cards, each of them living in their own, most exquisitely crafted boxes. Every pack a magical marvel, filled with the spirit of this genius card maker … All this he did using his Adana printing press, very simple hand tools and great skill. When Karl closed down his studio in St.Peter’s Terrace in Bath, England and moved to Poplar Close, he sold off work for which he felt he no longer wanted to be the custodian. So a number of prints reached the market then. Printed sheets by Karl Gerich...

Scandinavian Abstract Wool Tapestry Rug Gun Gordillo Neon Electric Blue Color
Located in Surfside, FL
Gun Gordillo (Swedish, 1945-) Ege Axminster, Denmark. This had a velcro strip to be used as a wall hanging. It can also be laid on the floor. This is a tufted pile wool tapestry not a flat weave like an Aubusson. Perfect for a Memphis Milano 80's interior. Gun Gordillo was born in Lund, Sweden. Contemporary Scandinavian Artist. Her fluency with the material, which comes so natural to Gun Gordillo, makes her works unusually suited to function in many different context in a public milieu. Dolerite, lead, copper, and zinc plate in combination with contemporary fragile art materials such as glass, plexiglass and, above all, neon light makes her works stand out among those which have been created with light as the basic architecture of their artistic expression. There is a decidedly personal angle to her way of dealing with neon light which gives it a poetic dimension in marked contrast to the harsh stridency of advertising signs. Gordillo's work has been shown at several major solo exhibitions, most recently in 2015 at the famous French galerie denise rené, Paris. She has worked with the legendary gallerist Denise Rene for more then 30 years. She has also participated many group exhibitions including "The spirit of white" at Galerie Beyeler, Basel in 2004 and most recently "Néon, who's afraid of red, yellow and blue?" at la Maison Rouge, Paris in 2012. She has also been invited to create several major installations at world famous companies and public sites in cities like Basel, Paris, Copenhagen and Stockholm. Gordillo today lives and work in Copenhagen, Denmark after spending many years living and working in Paris, France. Her work straddles the lines of design and sculpture with her Neon and Fluorescent Light installations reminiscent of the California Light & Space artists such as Larry Bell, Robert Irwin, Bruce Nauman, James Turrell as well as Dan Flavin. Vintage Chicago Architect Stanley Tigerman Cloisonne Enamel Art Necklace Acme
Located in Surfside, FL
This is new old stock vintage Jewelry from the legendary Acme Studio collection, which created many revolutionary jewelry items. It was handmade in the 1980s using the intricate cloisonné process, an ancient technique for decorating metal; hence any imperfections within the colors are to be expected and inherent which makes it unique and one-of-a-kind. This piece is worn around the neck, like a bolo tie. The Memphis Designers for Acme collection debuted in 1986, at the opening of the Memphis/Milano exhibition at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York City. The entire collection is in the permanent collection of the Groninger Collection in The Netherlands and is represented in other museum collections worldwide including the Metropolitan Museum in New york city. In 1981 Ettore Sottsass formed a design collaborative name Memphis Design. The Memphis Design Group drew inspiration from such movements as Art Deco and Pop Art producing jewelry, furniture, lighting and fabrics from 1981 to 1988. The rare designs by members including Nathalie du Pasquier, Andrea Branzi, Martine Bedin, Matteo Thun and Peter Shire are often characterized by zany colors and asymmetrical shapes. The group designed many postmodern furniture, fabrics, ceramics, glass, and metal objects until 1987. The name "Memphis" came from Bob Dylan's Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again, which was playing during the group's inaugural meeting. Inspired by art deco, art nouveau, and pop art, the group created many bold, colorful, geometric styles that departed from the rigid and dark trend during the 1970s. From 1985 to 1992, Acme founders Adrian Olabuenaga and Leslie Bailey produced more than 100 different earrings, brooches, and necklaces by design titans like Ettore Sottsass, Joanna Grawunder, Martine Bedin, Matteo Thun, Alessandro Mendini, and George Sowden, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Marco Zanini, as well as architects Alessandro Mendini, Stanley Tigerman...

In the Village, Gouache on Paper, Pink & Red color by Gobardhan Ash "In Stock"
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Gobardhan Ash - Untitled - Gouache on Paper 10 x 15 inches (unframed size) Style : Regarded as a pioneer of modern Indian art, Ash’s contribution at the time when India witnessed the advent of Western modernism is significant and colossal. His work was exploratory, visionary and inspiring. He printed with bold courage and a free spirit, never yielding to the rules set by official art. He rejected the preconceived notions of how an artist ought to render his subjects and inevitably rebelled against the academic rules “ If we look at nature in the open, we do not see individual objects each with its own colors but rather a bright medley of tints which blend in our eyes, in our minds.” – Gobardhan Ash (The Statesman, April 24, 1994). His verbal imagery alluded to what was real and relevant in India yet transcended to communicate a deeper, universal message about the human spirit. Disillusioned with the limits and constraints he faced, Ash withdrew into his private introspective world to explore his own mode of artistic expression. And although it was the convention then to paint divinities or exotic female figures on their way to the temple, Ash embarked on a new approach altogether to paint farmers toiling in the fields, workers engaged in intense labor to earn their living, thereby setting a new trend of socio-realistic art in India. In 1945, Ash was brought into the public eye when the progressive writers Association discovered his series of paintings on the Bengal famine. The paintings depict, if not document, the ravages of the 1943 catastrophe. In juxtaposition to the famine series, his impressionist and post impressionist gouaches during the late 40s come as an interesting antithesis. Colors, rich and vibrant, come alive in a pulsating tone to dominate the entire painting. Ash never subscribed to a stringent artistic form or technique. Rather, his works from the 80s display yet another intriguing and jarringly different style in his treatment of portraiture. His colors, with the exception of the apparent outlines, are reduced to smudges and smears so that the painting appear to originate from stained canvas. His subjects, spectral figures that engage and draw us within their profound state of despair and helplessness. To characterize the life works of Gobardhan Ash is to recognize the complexity and spontaneity of his ideas and the enormous richness of his style. An artist who devoted his entire life to art, his paintings have transited and evolved from monochromatic sketches and landscape to portraiture; from naturalistic real-life depictions to abstract expressionism. Whatever the genre style-Ash has demonstrated an eloquent mastery over the diverse style, techniques and medias employed, as evident in the vast retrospective collection. His paintings are conceptual and purposeful, displaying a unique individuality. His art expounds a frank desire to convey the value of uncompromising artistic sincerity. Gobardhan Ash remains today a prolific artist of his time. About the Artist & his works : Born : Regarded as a pioneer of modern Indian art, Gobardhan Ash (1907-1996) was born at the village of Begampur in Hoogly district of West Bengal.. Family : His father was Haricharan Ash and mother Gouri Devi. He spent all his life in this village and died here in 1996 at the matured age...

EXTRA BEAUTIFUL CRACKLE VASE BY MASTER TEXAS GLAZER HARDING BLACK POTTERY
Located in San Antonio, TX
Harding Black San Antonio (1912 - 2004) Huge Heavy Crackle Vase 1985 Height 14'' Across Widest 8" Biography Harding Black San Antonio (1912 - 2004) Harding Black was born on a farm in Nueces County between Ingleside and Aransas Pass and moved with his family to San Antonio in 1916. There he graduated from Brackenridge High School and attended San Antonio Junior College (1929-30). In 1931 Black joined an archaeological expedition to the Big Bend area sponsored by the Witte Memorial Museum. Initially a painter, he was taught by Rudolph Staffel in 1933 to make wheel- thrown pottery and in the same year began to teach children's ceramic classes at the Witte. Between 1937 and 1939, Black directed ceramic installation in a San Antonio reconstruction project sponsored by the National Youth Administration and the Works Progress Administration art program. In 1955 he retired from teaching and devoted his time to ceramics. Black became a well-known ceramist from his research, innovations, and writings in the field. Exhibitions: San Antonio Local Artists Annual Exhibition (1939-42, 1945, 1947); Texas General Exhibition (1940 award, 1942, 1948 honorable mention); National Ceramic Annual Exhibition, Syracuse Museum of Art (1947-54); River Art Group, San Antonio (1948-49); National Collection of Fine Arts, Washington D.C. (1951, 1956); Dallas Museum of Fine Arts (1952 one-man); Martin Museum of Art, Baylor University (1991 one-man); San Antonio Museum of Art (1995 retrospective); National Museum of Art, Washington, D.C. (1995); University of Texas at Dallas, Irving (1998 retrospective). Collections: Dallas Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts; San Antonio Museum of Art; Martin Museum of Art, Baylor University, Waco; National Museum of American Art, Washington D.C.; New Orleans Museum of Art; Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, new York; Alfred University (New York). Harding Black resided in San Antonio Texas where he worked as a potter for over 60 years and far as anyone knows he was completely self taught. I find it amazing that anyone could ever accomplish what he did with with no formal training in either ceramics or chemistry. It was a long and prolific journey from the early hand built earthenware pottery to become recognized as a master of glazes. While I feel that his forms often could be better this is more than compensated for by the spectacular glazes he developed. Constant experimentation and his acquired knowledge of chemistry were the foundations for the wonderful glazes that adorn his pottery. The following quote is from an interview with Rudolf Staffel His copper reds are unbelievably beautiful. Harding was a master of glazes and one of the most generous human beings in the ceramic field that I've known. He had literally a room full of beautifully organized test tiles of all his glazes, and he would just throw the room open to anybody who wanted to rummage through his tiles. All the recipes were there and he shared them with anyone who was interested. It was wonderful to go and visit him. Although accurate records of all test firings were kept for reference it I have been told that it would be difficult to reproduce many of these glazes because of the kiln he built and clays he used. This may not be the case because in a recent phone conversation (4/11/2007) with Peter Pinnell he told me that some of his students had success replicating some glazes using Harding's formulas By concentrating on the bowl and vessel forms Harding remained true to the historical traditions of pottery making. The magnificent Harding Black journey began in 1932. At that time he joined the Witte Museum Archaeological Society which provided him with access to their collections of Native American pottery. Harding became fascinated by these pollychromed vessels and he began attempting to create hand built pots. He had very little or no success but a life long of working in clay had begun. It was about this time that he met up with Rudolf Staffel and it was from him that Harding learned wheel throwing and developed ideas of how to operate a studio. Harding was given access to working space at the Witte where he built a wheel and in 1933 he was given a position as ceramic instructor. In this position it was his responsibility to establish a ceramics department. The first kiln Harding built was using plans that were obtained from Newcomb College. He scrounged parts from a junkyard which were used in its construction. This project was not totally successful because of problems reaching required temperatures. As usual this did not deter Harding. He seemed to have a wonderful ability to learn from failure and move on. In the early 1940's Harding began working with formulas for copper red glazes prepared by Arthur Baggs and Edgar Littlefield. This work only added to his interest in Oriental pottery and fostered a desire to rework many old glazes. Being greatly influenced by A Potters Book published in 1940 by Bernard Leach Harding was now on his way seeking to incorporate form, function and surface treatment into a single entity where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. In the 1950's Harding left the Witte and built his own studio where he spent the rest of his life creating his wonderful art. The body of his work is a living tribute to the Harding Black lifelong love of ceramics. Along with being a researcher he was also a teacher always willing to share his knowledge with others.
