Benjamin Weaver
Interlocking #13: geometric abstract Op Art painting; pink purple blue squares

2022

About the Item

Benjamin Weaver creates spatial tension through his use of contrasting colors arranged in a geometric framework. Imagery and color work both with and against each other to create movement within the composition. By the artist’s careful placement of line and use of subtly graduated color, forms seem either to recede or project, constantly shifting within the picture plane. Weaver accentuates these structural relationships by working with a simplified palette and reduced forms, though the ideas at work in his compositions remain highly complex. This minimalist geometric abstract acrylic on canvas painting with a Pop Art flair is part of Weaver's "Interlocking" series, with squares, rectangles, and polygons. It is signed and dated on the back. No need to frame -- canvas edges are neatly finished, and the back includes hanging hardware so it is ready to install. Weaver’s work has been exhibited in galleries and juried shows throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and is held in the permanent collections of Capital One, the Fox School of Business at Temple University, Episcopal Academy, Cube Smart, The Dane, and many private collections. He maintains a studio in Philadelphia, PA.

  • Real Fire: abstract painting w/ spray paint graffiti tag in red & black
    By Mat Tomezsko
    Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
Mat Tomezko's latest series of mixed media paintings uses evocative materials and imagery of fire, flowers, food, newspapers, asphalt, and ash to illuminate the interconnectedness of destructive and creative forces. "Real Fire" depicts flames and fire above a segment of abstract forms in spray paint recalling street art and graffiti tags. This painting is signed and dated on the back. It includes all hanging hardware and is ready to install -- no need for additional framing. Tomezsko is an artist from Philadelphia who creates abstract paintings, public art installations, and community art projects based around participation and everyday visual language. His approach to composition is informed by mid-century formalism and conceptualism. His work was recognized by the 2017 Americans for the Arts Public Art Network Year in Review for outstanding public art. Tomezsko’s work has been exhibited at numerous art spaces regionally and nationally, including the Crane Arts, Woodmere Art Museum, the Center For Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA), and Wexler Gallery in Philadelphia; Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, IL; the Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington, DE; and Thomas Hunter Projects in New York, NY. Paul Kostabi is known for his wildly fun, expressionistic, and colorful portraits. This painting is a perfect definition of his most popular works. Red, bright whites, greens, and blues disperse in a frenzy of splatters, fast brush strokes, and speckles ascending across the canvas. The exuberant, bright, and messy depictions of this piece hold much fascination in its execution. His layered approach to the paint is part of what makes his works so attractive and exciting; creating many dimensions and highlights resembling the shine and gleam of stars in the universe.
