- "Following III" abstract acrylic painting on canvas black lines neutral pale tanBy Amanda AndersenLocated in Hamburg, HHA large abstract painting on canvas by Amanda Andersen; one in a series of five in the "Following" series created in 2013. (Three of them are available for sale, two sold.) This series was made with a linseed oil medium on the geometric parts of the canvas to create areas of semi-gloss transparency to contrast the larger matte surfaces. Black tape from a VHS cassette was draped in the studio and used as reference to create the abstracted black forms in the piece which elegantly stretch out and pile together in the middle. Background areas of pale pink, tan and beige let the black tape stand out, layered with pale yellow and yellow green rectangles. This series belongs to a larger body of work created in the early 2010s which explored vintage technologies and materials. Including still life paintings of VHS cassette tape–like this one–as well as reel-to-reel tape machines...Category
