encaustic on panel Michael David is best known for his use of encaustic on large abstract paintings. A practitioner of Abstract Expressionism, David layers beeswax and pigment to create dense and textural surfaces, resembling natural forms. He built his early career on abstraction and religious iconography, later moving to representational painting, environment sculpture, and photography. His work is included in the public collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Denver Art Museum, Jewish Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Edward Albee Foundation, Guggenheim Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Neuberger Museum, and the Rose Art Museum, among others.
