A charming early 20th Century study of Nikolai Kasatkin's 1894 painting 'The Poor Gathering Coal in a Worked-Out Mine'. The scene shows women and children mining for coal in a Russian mountainside quarry. The scene shows how women and children were often required to gather on the land while their husbands and fathers mined below ground. Presented in a distressed part-gilt frame. On canvas .
