Christopher Mark Brennan
"LIFE and DEATH of a Yellow Popsicle" Acrylic Painting by Mark Brennan

2021

About the Item

With "Yellow Popsicle", Brennan creates a visually striking acrylic painting that elevates an everyday object to a new singular level of precision and questioning paying homage to Photorealism and Hyperrealism artistic currents. Through careful study and manipulation of color, lighting, and contrast, the painter offers an immersive hyperreality of what can be seen with the naked eye of a popsicle, which goes beyond what a traditional photograph of the same subject would offer. A visual binary conversation can start by including the paper wrapper around the ice cream stick and by intentionally placing the intense yellow within a black background. Brennan gives there a three-dimensional aspect to the image, adding a disturbing emotional and narrative depth to this piece, as well as a possible opening of the criticism of the consumer society. This painting will indeed become a focal point in your house and spark numerous discussions. Christopher Mark Brennan was born in 1950. He attended Washington University School of Fine Arts in St Louis, Missouri in 1974. After 1983 he made covers for magazines and artworks for Universal Studios, 3 cover Art for Frank Zappa CD, and other musicians. This work was more like photo-realism in large format. He now lives in Santa Barbara and also makes smaller but still very striking paintings. His imagination seems to have no limit! He lives a private life, not sharing much online besides his art. Shrouded in secrecy, the artist's private life is a fascinating aspect that contrasts with the current trend of pop art and photorealistic-inspired paintings. While this artistic movement often portrays art as a consumable entity - one that is temporary, cheap, and quickly discarded - many artists have also become products to be rapidly consumed and forgotten. However, Brennan has managed to avoid this trend and reverse it.
