Hans Orlowski
The Judgement of Paris

About the Item

"The Judgement of Paris", an allegorical oil painting by German artist Hans Otto Orlowski. Painted in a quintesential style that incorporates elements of German Expressionism, Art Deco, and Surrealism. In the Greek mythology, Zues charges Paris to choose the most beautiful Goddess between Aphrodite, Hera and Athena, by handing one his golden apple. The painting is a beautiful figurative composition, painted on canvas laid on panel, signed and dated 1938, 39 x 72 Original crazing in the paint lends a texture to the overall image, set into a custom white gold frame, with some original crazing in the paint. The frame is white gold, very old and there is some flaking of the leafing, nothing that would detract from the hung painting, but needs to be mentioned.
