About the Item
In "Ooh La La," artist Kristy Chettle captures a raw and visceral beauty through a figurative contemporary piece, utilizing the unique medium of reclaimed wood. The work stands at 54.9" x 23.2", where the grain and texture of the wood add depth and a sense of history to the image portrayed. The oil paints are applied with a dynamic combination of precision and spontaneity, resulting in a nude figure that seems to emerge from and recede into the wood's natural patterns. The color palette is earthy and rich, with flashes of red bringing a vivacious energy to the composition. This painting exudes a sultry and confident atmosphere, with the reclaimed wood's imperfections celebrating the beauty of natural aging and the enduring spirit of the human form. "Ooh La La" is a visual experience and a tactile journey through texture and time.
About the Artist:
Kristy Chettle is an abstract artist whose tactile approach to painting sets her apart. Born in Los Angeles, California in 1968, Chettle forgoes traditional brushes and palette knives, favoring the intimate connection of painting with her hands. Her works are characterized by deep textures, vibrant complimentary colors, and layers that carry a visceral sense of motion and raw emotion. Each piece is a reflection of her journey, interwoven with messages of environmental care and self-empowerment. Influenced by the likes of Picasso and Van Gogh, she strives to bring similar depth and life to her paintings. Her commitment to a green practice extends to using reclaimed wood and recycled canvases, minimizing her ecological footprint. Chettle's art, a vivid exploration of nature and transformation, resonates with those who seek expressive, meaningful compositions.
“Kristy is a unique master, her technique is quite authentic and inspiring: All of Kristy’s works are painted with her bare hands. There are no brushes or palette knives used, which adds to the immediacy and rawness of the painting.” –Alik Elzafon, American Art Gallery, Carmel, CA

Kristy Chettle
Kristy Chettle (b. 1968, Bellflower, CA) is a dynamic abstract artist who paints using only her hands. She works in a sort of “focused frenzy”, painting expressive works
deep with bold colors in complex layers. After earning a degree in Art & Design, she
began her professional career as a graphic designer and now seeks to deconstruct
the confines of modern media. As a California native, she is compelled to explore
themes such as nature, metamorphosis, and personal growth, which are reflective of
the ever-changing environment of the region. Using a vibrant and sometimes unexpected color pallet, Chettle’s work is expressive featuring heavy strokes and dramatic motion. Using multiple layers she creates
a complex, almost tactile surface, inviting the viewer to dive into the painting and
explore its depths. The artist sees her style as a liberation from the rigid rules of
marketing, yet she intuitively implements the disciplines she was taught. Working primarily with complimentary colors, her paintings are lively and raw with color vibrating throughout from layers deep within the work. Kristy has been a professional abstract artist for many years. Her artwork hangs in the homes of those who appreciate art that reflects expressive motion and color with thick layers of texture and meaning. Inspired by some of the greats—Picasso and Van Gogh in particular—she aspires to replicate the depth and life that their works portray.

Her works have been in the past approached to the works of Anselm Kiefer (b. 1945) and Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1770), but in Gullotta's paintings the absence of color makes the spaces particularly ethereal, allowing them to be ideally lifted to new places and to new life.
