About the Item

Nicola Magrin was born in Milan in 1978. In 2004 he graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan with a thesis on Miquel Barceló. In 2008 he was selected for a three-month Artist in Residence in New York (U.S.A.) at the Harlem Studio Fellowship by MontrasioArte. Since then he has built a full and authentic artistic career, alongside significant contributions to literary illustration. A passionate traveler, Nicola Magrin knows how to transfer his experiences and emotions onto paper, filtered through his interesting inner world. Synthesis and richness of sign combine under the skillful control of the watercolour technique, in which he has achieved international fame. Over time he has forged relationships with talented writers, filmmakers, and poets who contribute to his human and artistic growth, stimulating in him the desire to take on new challenges and overcome unexplored frontiers. He also collaborates with major Italian publishers: he designed the covers of Primo Levi's works for Einaudi, and, among others, for the volumes, Le otto montagne and Senza mai arrivare in cima by Paolo Cognetti (2016 and 2018), Il silenzio by Erling Kagge (2016), and Le antiche vie, by Robert Macfarlane (2013). He is also responsible for all the covers of the Tiziano Terzani books published by TEA. His publishing experience has led him to develop a series of collaborations in which his illustrations dialogue with the texts of some of Italy's great storytellers. These include the book by Folco Terzani, Il cane, il Lupo e Dio, (Longanesi 2017); Federico Rampini, L'oceano di mezzo (Laterza 2019); EsterArmanini, Una balena va in montagna (Salani 2019) and Marco Stainer, Passi silenziosi nel bosco (Nuages Edizioni 2020). In 2021 he published his own book, text and illustrations made by Nicola Magrin, Altri Voli con le nuvole (Salani Editore).
