Oil on Linen of An Urn with a bowl and apples in a Purple background by Alvin R. Raffel (American, 1905-1987.) Linen is on plywood but we will re-stretch on stretcher bars. Some loss to linen edges at corners out of sight of the painting will be re-lined.
Alvin Robert Raffel born on December 25, 1905 in Dayton, Ohio. Son of Herman John and Pauline Louise (Kromann) Raffel. He studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and a BA in fine arts in 1933 at the Artist Institute of Chicago under F. DeForest Schook. He was a lithographer for Gartner & Bender in Chicago from 1925 until 1936.
Lived in Dayton, Ohio in 1939 as a lithographer for Reynolds & Reynolds. Instructor of watercolor painting at Centerville High School and an Instructor of drawing and painting at Dayton Art Institute.
