Jackie Battenfield
Inazuma m1, Cobalt, Dark Blue Tree Branches, White Mylar

2014

About the Item

Tree branches in dramatic hues of dark blue are striking against the pristine white background of this painting on Mylar. This painting on Mylar requires mounting and bracing to be sold. The work is mounted on acrylic panel to preserve the transparency of the materials. The price quoted is the unframed painting. Please inquire for mounting, bracing and framing costs. Jackie Battenfield’s meditative painting process begins with the artist’s close attention to the graceful forms of unfolding leaves and blossoms, and to twisted boughs and branches. The artist painstakingly translates her photographic studies into drawings on large sheets of translucent Mylar, taking care to stay true to the original forms. The artist makes hundreds of color studies before arriving at the palette for each painting. When expertly applied to the Mylar, Battenfield’s ink-like pigments form unexpected, distinctive abstract, transparent and opaque patterns.

    Located in Kent, CT
In this embroidery painting, a poinsettia pattern in red, yellow, purple and green is carefully painted in colorful dots in acrylic and gouache on Duralar mounted on panel. Signed and dated on verso. Kirstin Lamb’s gridded, meticulously detailed paintings on transparent acetate are labor-intensive paintings of labor-intensive textiles and patterns. To create these embroidery paintings, Lamb starts by generating a digitized grid and painstakingly painting each individual gridded stitch by hand using acrylic and gouache on a wet media acetate. The process creates a one-to-one relationship of mark to stitch, the act of each brushstroke serving for the stitch of a needle. Lamb’s embroidery paintings draw patterns from French floral wallpaper of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, while others draw inspiration from vintage embroidery patterns...
