Cindy Shaoul
"A Day by the Flatiron" Impressionist Oil Painting of New York City Flatiron

About the Item

A charming depiction of the Flatiron in New York City with bustling cars and street lights below. A cozy impressionistic street scene with colors of cobalts, pinks, and burnt sienna's. This painting was painted on sight by the artist. An iconic street scene with beautiful brushwork and whimsical details, this piece captures the essence of the Flatiron just above 23rd street and 5th Avenue, NYC. Having built a diverse body of work since her early career ranging from portraits to abstract paintings of the universe, today Cindy's works exhibit a more impressionistic technique. She is mostly known for her consistent impressionistic street scenes which resemble the ashcan school, depicting old cars on the road during the early 20th Century. Her whimsicality is precious, leaving much room for nostalgia in her works. For more than a decade her works have been a part of several important Exhibitions throughout New York City. Her works are part of private collections including ‘Dr. Issac Shohar’ and ‘Zion Yakabov’ in Tel Aviv, Israel, and ‘Alex Acevedo’ on Madison Ave., New York. PROVENANCE: Lilac Gallery Collection. Signed bottom right corner. This original artwork includes a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the Gallery. The piece will be stamped from Lilac Gallery on its verso.

  • "Solebury Valley"
    By William Langson Lathrop
    Located in Lambertville, NJ
Signed lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell. The two men became lifelong friends and ultimately, both would be considered central figures among the New Hope Art Colony. Lathrop's early years as an artist were ones of continuing struggle. His efforts to break through in the New York art scene seemed futile, so he scraped enough money together to travel to Europe with Henry Snell in1888. There he met and married an English girl, Annie Burt. Upon returning to New York, he tried his hand at etching, making tools from old saw blades...
