Delightful little landscape painting held in an impressionist style. The artist has used thick impasto paint layers to create this dreamy, tree lined country lane somewhere in rural 20th century France.
Gaétan painted mainly landscapes, but I have also seen accomplished portrait paintings by this artist. However, it is his landscapes which are sought after and this is exactly what we have here. Excellent work in a format, which will easily find a spot to be treasured in the future owners home.
Although Gaétan Montagney was a productive artist active in the 20th century, with many of his painting turning up on the market, of which the larger landscapes can achieve 4 digits at auction, not much is known about his life. So, I am not able to date this painting other than to the mid 20th century.
The painting is in good untouched condition – The little frame has the usual wear and tear and the mitering on the corners has shrunk.
