1888

About the Item

Landscape is an original oil painting on canvas, realized by the British artist George William Mote (1832-1909). Hand-signed and dated in red oil color on lower right corner "G.W. Mote 1888". This modern artwork represents a luxuriant natural landscape animated by two spectators and was painted by an artist specialized in landscape oil painting. Mote begun painting as the gardener/caregiver to Sir Thomas Phillips of Middle Hill. Many of Mote's paintings have been exhibited at Royal Academy and Suffolk Street Gallery of the Royal Society of British Artists. He is mentioned by the E. Benezit (Dictionnairre des Peintres, Sculpteurs, Dessinateurs et Graveurs, Vol. 9, p. 899) and by Christopher Wood, ( Dictionary of British Art - Volume IV, Victorian Painters, pp. 367, 331). A superb oil painting with a full mastery of the artistic technique, in very good conditions, except for a sign of restoration ( visible on the back of the canvas). Including a gilded wooden frame.
