About the Item

Ilir Zefi, landscape view of Circus Maximus in Rome signed and dated. Ilir Zefi was born in 1963 in Albania in Mirdite and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana, then began exhibiting in various group exhibitions here since the end of the 1980s and in 1991 he held his first solo show. He initially moved to Rome in the 90s and took part in several group exhibitions (1992, Galleria La Tartaruga; 1995, Galleria Lazzari; 1996, Galleria Because I love you; 1997, Paura, Galleria I.L.A.; 1999, Festival delle Interculture, Museo of Popular Arts and Traditions), and then the first solo exhibition in 1998 at the Opera Cultural Association of Rome. In 2000 Marco Tonelli curated his solo show at the Galleria Lombardi in Rome and exhibited at the Space Art Gallery in Tucson (Ariz., U.S.A.); followed by solo exhibitions in Amsterdam (2003, Galerie Rudolfv) and Milan (2006, Galleria Rubin). In 2011 the solo show The beat of painting at the Robert Kanana Gallery in Toronto (Canada). In 2005 he was invited to exhibit at the XIV Quadrennial in Rome curated by Marco Tonelli. Among the group exhibitions are The colors of Albania at the National Gallery of Fine Arts in Tirana (2004), Summer Group Show at the Galleria Rubin in Milan (2008) and in 2009 the exhibition at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo (New York, U.S.A.). There have also been numerous participations in the most important national and international fairs: Kunst Zürich (2007), ArteFiera Bologna (2007, 2008, 2009), Art Verona (2009), MiArt (2008), Scope Art Show New York (2008).
