About the Item

This beautiful impressionist oil-on-canvas painting entitled ‘Spring Air’ is over one hundred years old and is by the artist Isidoor Verheyden (1846-1905). Verheyden was a Belgian painter of landscapes, portraits and still life. He was the son of painter Jean-François Verheyden; his first teacher at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels was Joseph Quinaux, and in 1868 he entered the studio of Jean-François Portaels for further study. He also studied under the landscape painter Théodore Baron; he in turn taught Anna Boch. Verheyden was a co-founder member of the artistic group "Les XX" from 1885 to 1888 and a member of the Belgian Royal Academy. He became both teacher and Director at the Academy of Brussels from 1900-1905. Ref: E. Bénézit, Dictionnaire des Peintres, Sculpteurs, Dessinateurs et Graveurs
