About the Item
Mid-Century Italian Impressionist view of the Church of the Madeleine in Martigues, France.
A fantastic view in the classical Italian 20th-century Impressionist style of the famous church in Martigues.
The artist was a self-taught painter who grew up in the French Rivera. He painted throughout this area and often visited Marseille, the Loing Valley, and the Seine Valley.
Most of his paintings were landscapes and beach scenes, making this example a rare painting.
The use of thick and thin paint also gives the painting a rich feeling, combined with the artist capturing the bright sunlight on the front of the Church.
It is by far the finest example of the artist's work I have ever seen.
The painting is framed in a handmade Italian embossed silver/gold frame which I think sets off the architectural elements of the painting.
