East River, Con Ed, Panorama (Cityscape of Brooklyn, Williamsburg Bridge)

2022

About the Item

East River, Con Ed, Panorama Savings Bank Tower Skyline in Brooklyn, NY Cultural District, Williamsburg Bridge Painted by Robert Goldstrom in 2022, 10 x 8 inches, 12.5 x 10.5 inches framed in black wood frame Robert Goldstrom, long time Brooklyn resident, is well known for his poignant and enchanting paintings of his beloved borough. This painting weaves the artist's impeccable skill with interesting and dynamic city views, convey in a pointillist style. The artist carefully observes scenic details and infuses it with a mood derived from soft, peppered brushwork and Hopper-esque lighting. The artist uses color and fluctuating sunlight to create the illusion of density as a grid of buildings stack up against the horizon. Goldstrom’s views of Brooklyn, painted as studies or full-scale tableaux, are captured at various times of day to reveal shifts in color and perspective. Goldstrom’s studies of city skylines are painted at various times of day, offering slight shifts in perspective while chasing sunlight. His panoramic portals mimic the horizontal view of where skyscrapers and bridges meet cloud and sky as seen from the street or a top story window. The Williamsburg Bank Building - an iconic beacon for many Brooklynites and the artist’s own “Mt. Fuji”- can be spotted in many of his paintings. Artist Statement: "I have been painting the Williamsburg Savings Bank Building and its place in the Brooklyn landscape for about ten years with some frustration. Many of these paintings want to be big, but their size has been limited by the size of my studio, located in the front bedroom of our Brooklyn townhouse. Ironically, since moving my studio to a barn in the Hudson Valley, these Brooklyn paintings have finally begun to live up to their potential." - Robert Goldstrom, 2016 About the artist: Robert Goldstrom lives and paints Upstate New York by way of Brooklyn, NY. After years of making a living as an illustrator, winning both Gold and Silver Medals from the Society of Illustrators, Robert turned more and more to creating personal work. Now a full-time artist, he usually works in series – The Anatomy Lesson, Aquarium Paintings, Bank Paintings – following an idea from image to image until it plays itself out. Robert has shown his work at MDH Fine Arts and Underbridge Pictures in New York City, the A Gallery in Provincetown , MA, Weiler House Fine Arts in Fort Worth, TX, and now Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY. His work is in the collection of The Smithsonian Institution, The Cooper Hewitt, and many private collections, and has been featured on television in CSI on CBS, the Fox series, The Following, and the forthcoming NBC series, Allegiance.
