About the Item
Iconic cityscape oil painting on canvas of Brooklyn's Green Wood Cemetery and Manhattan Skyline and Statue of Liberty painted on the horizon
Painted by Robert Goldstrom in 2019
36 x 72 inches, Oil on linen
38 x 74 x 2 inches framed (black wood frame)
Robert Goldstrom, long time Brooklyn resident, is well known for his poignant and enchanting paintings of his beloved borough. This paintings weaves the artist's impeccable skill with a sly sense of humor. Here he paints the well known Green Wood Cemetery at early dawn or early dusk where the prevalence of sunlight has not yet triggered the city street lamps to extinguish. In the background, a number of iconic buildings and landmarks can be seen; One Hanson Place, the water towers, and of course the Statue of Liberty. In the foreground, the artist paints the silhouettes of ghostly figures mingling among the cemetery headstones. These ghost like figures are almost translucent, yet anything but frightening. One is spotted in a tree top, while another crouches near a tomb. It reminds us of the dense population of city dwellers who are and once were. The light is beautifully painted in a style typical of Goldstrom, a style recalling post-impressionist works of Georges Seurat.
This expansive panoramic view in full scale would be a wonderful addition to any contemporary or historical home; clearly the owner will be someone with a close connection to Brooklyn!

- Peach Lilies (Contemporary Still Life of Vibrant Tiger Lilies, Oil on canvas)By Dan RupeLocated in Hudson, NYPeach Lilies (Contemporary Still Life of Vibrant Tiger Lilies, Oil on canvas) by Dan Rupe 22 x 22 inches oil on linen canvas Signed on reverse Artist Dan Rupe paints only from life, his composition ruled by his intuitive sense of formal order. He begins covering his canvas with a deep crimson wash. This ground gives his brilliant pure color , applied with an expressive, direct gesture, an electric charge. No matter how often or how long one looks at a Rupe painting, it is always the present tense. The tone of his palette, the freshness and clarity of primary colors, reflects an optimistic attitude, an intrinsic love of life. In this work, three vibrant peach colored lilies open their blooms amidst bright green grasses. Rupe succeeds at capturing the immediacy of his subjects be it flowers, buildings or people. Read below for an amusing profile written about the artist in 2003: You‘ve likely seen him on the streets of Hudson, seated before his canvas in a multi-colored paint daubed t-shirt and shorts, his straw hat providing shade for all but his tanned forearms and knees. His splattered Technicolor Walkman tape player...Category
