About the Item
This beautiful French impressionist painting on wood panel is a lake or river scene most likely in the south of France. The dappled reflections in the water are pure impressionist in style. The colors and brushstrokes are also typical of the early twentieth century. The painting is nicely signed “Thompson”, lower right. It is also dated ‘11 and noted “France” below. Unfortunately there are many Thompsons listed as artists, so it would be difficult to be specific, unless the stylized signature were to be matched. The artist is surely American, Canadian or possibly British.
The painting on panel measures 13” x 16”. It is in very good condition and recently cleaned and varnished. It is housed in a more recent carved gilt frame with a linen liner. Together they make an attractive impressionist work of art ready to hang on your wall of choice. Overall framed dimensions are 18” x 21”.
