About the Item

Woman is an original artwork realized by François Chapuis in the first years of the 1970s. Colored pastels on paper. Signed in pencil by the artist on the lower right margin. Good conditions, except for a small rip on the right margin. The artwork represents a portrait of a woman with a stylized face; the strokes on the face are soft yet strong at the same time. The whole composition is divided into two parts: the left is black, while the right is white. Indeed, the artist uses only two colors with a small red detail in the center. The nose is realized with two vertical lines; the portrait presents a Cubist influence. The beautiful soft strokes of the composition reveal the great ability and talent of the artist. François Chapuis was a French artist. He moved to Nancy with his family, where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts. Later, he moved to Paris, where he attended the Centre d'Art Sacré. He also realized many glass windows for churches. His name is renowned for the "mur lumière", associated with the application of different materials onto a surface.
