by EDMUND FAIRFAX-LUCY (1945-2020)
20th Century interior portrait of a sleeping nude in an artists studio, oil on board by Edmund Fairfax-Lucy. A leading example of the English interior and landscape painters work and also the only nude study in his oeuvre. The title is believed to be "Addiction" as the nude, sleeping between a cup of tea and packet of cigarettes, lays in repose of someone under the influence of a much stronger drug. The painting would be further enhanced with a light clean and varnish.
It was painted in 1968, the height of Fairfax-Lucy's active period, while exhibiting regularly at the Royal Academy however due to the subject matter and that it has come through direct descent from the artists family suggest the work was a personal painting for the artist not intended for exhibition or public sale.
Signed and presented in its original gilt frame. Inscribed by the artist verso.
