Trapeze Girl at the Circus on a Red Background - Acrylic Painting by L.Rise

1980s

About the Item

As a cultural artifact, the circus holds various symbolic meanings over time, challenging our beliefs while inspiring wonder. In this tribute to Fernand Leger and his 50s Circus series, Lrisé has created a colorful acrylic painting on canvas resembling a collage but without using cut-out pieces. Instead, it presents simple geometric shapes such as squares, triangles, circles, trapezoids, ovals, and ellipses painted in bold contrasts of curves and straight lines - with dark and thick outlines - giving this aerial circus woman the appearance of a Pinocchio or a wooden dummy used for figure drawing.

James Koskinas_ Not framed. Does not need to be framed. This large scale painting of a head hints at Picasso. Both technically accomplished and classically approached, the thick gestural brushstrokes add a fragmented & tactile character to the canvas. Warm palette juxtaposed against cool gray background. This comes stretched and ready to hang. Message me for shipping quote About the artist: James Koskinas, born in Terre Haute...

I combine orientalism and primitivism with western cubist principles and the expressionists’ use of colour, to create bright and vibrant figurative images." - Amanda Watt Amanda Watt was born in Northern Ireland in 1960, and graduated from the Belfast College of Art and Design in 1982. Just three years out of University, while living in London, Amanda was discovered by top film director Barry Levinson, who invited her to Malibu to paint from his beach house for six months.
