Applause - black and white abstract contemporary darkroom handmade photograph

2021

About the Item

This mixed process multiple exposure photogram from my ongoing "Metamporphosis" series was made with flowers, sand, and glitter. This print was actually the first print I made with what was then a brand new process with sand, just prior to teaching my first online photograms course. [I use sand a lot these days, in a variety of ways.] I began making photograms - sans enlarger in 2020, due to having an unfinished darkroom at the time; it has since become something I specialize in. I think of my photograms more in terms of sculpture than anything else, and I do work my materials a bit. Sometimes during, sometimes between exposures. I also think of my images in terms of what they are, and what else they can be. All of my images are essentially subconscious self portraits that reveal themselves during my printing process; however titles of my photograms are based on what speaks to me when I look at these abstract images. Detail shots of the prints are coming as soon as I have a chance to rearrange my place for shooting prints (space is tight and there aren't too many areas that get decent lighting outside of the darkroom). Please message me if you would like to see them sooner.
