About the Item
Picasso was one of my first sand explorations, when I started to really get messy with the process. This one-of-a-kind handmade darkroom print was made without the use of a camera - with sand, flowers, glitter, and wax. Printed in November '21. From my multi-award-winning "Metamorphosis" series - a portion of this series is also currently on view in the 7th Biennial of Fine Art and Documentary Photography, at Foto Nostrum Gallery, in Barcelona.
I began making photograms due to having an unfinished darkroom at the time of the shutdown. I now teach my processes, and am currently working on my 5th alt process series (as well as a parallel film-based one). All of my images are about looking beyond the surface of things. I think of my contemporary alt process photograms more in terms of sculpture than anything else. The process is one of experimentation, much unlike the "traditional" print making process (I never know if the print will come out the way I hope it did, until I get it in the developer. But most of my photograms do work out well.) Mixed process multiple Exposure via dripping candle .
