'Vintage Manhattan Skyline' with River', by Unknown, Black & White Photograph

About the Item

This vintage black and white photograph of Manhattan with bridge and river measures 12.5" x 15.5". The water is in the foreground and covers over half of the composition from the bottom of the print and is mostly calm, with small ripples visible. A small boat makes its way through the water, entering from the bottom right-hand corner and heading towards the vast New York City skyline pictured past the water. The boat leaves a trail ripples behind as it heads for the city, creating an overall sense of adventure, and a yearning for opportunity and new experiences. The cityscape in the background is a little blurry, while the boat and the water in the foreground are both in focus and clear. The large bridge is visible, going from the city, over the water and is cut off by the left hand side of the print, unknown to the viewer as to where the other side of the bridge ends. The endless view of skyscrapers and buildings reflect the grandness of New York City, aiding in creating that sense of opportunity and expansiveness. The silver, grey, black and white tones are reflected throughout the print and capture the mood of a city just awakening to a new morning. The photographic print is framed in a black wooden frame.

  • 'Outdoor Street Scene', by Sonya Terpening, Watercolor on Paper
    By Sonya Terpening
    Located in Oklahoma City, OK
Sonya Terpening's framed watercolor on paper painting titled 'Outdoor Street Scene' captures a calm scene outside of a cafe. The dining table depicted in the work becomes the focal point when observing this piece, as it is placed in the foreground and captures the eye with a vivid blue table cloth; on the table are four glasses placed upside-down and what appears to be a sugar and salt shaker. Terpening's realistic style is exemplified in her depiction of the table; the blue cloth's folds and wrinkles, and the heavy use of shadows and lighting on the table cloth, chairs, and glasses all contribute to the realistic qualities of the piece. The table is positioned on a red brick sidewalk/street directly outside of the cafe, which is also brick but painted white. The cafe door...
