Nick Simpson
London based artist, Nick Simpson is celebrated for his fictional series entitled The Bumforth Man Collection. The series consists of archival prints inspired by a mythical story concerning a quantity of glass photographic plates discovered in an old oak chest on the Bumforth Manor estate in rural England, the family home of the Gascoigne-Simpson's for over nine generations. These plates, which had laid gathering dust for over a 100 years, were supposedly the work of Simpson’s great grandfather, Samuel Heracles Gascoigne-Simpson, a disciple of William Henry Fox Talbot, commonly considered to be the father of photography. To bring this story to life, Simpson starts by building a set, authentically styled and dressed to re-create the Victorian photographic salons of the late 1900s. This becomes the stage upon which he places his eclectic choice of models and actors, all following his original tight narrative to create a richly detailed tableau. The scene is then captured in a single sitting using an original 1867 Petzval lens mounted on a mahogany plate camera. Hand painting, scratching and distressing the plates add a patina, further adding to the illusion of historical provenance. Nick Simpson previously worked as a commercial photographer and creative director, before embarking upon a full-time career as an artist in 2011. He has exhibited extensively in the UK, but this will be his first exhibition in the USA.

- Tea and Comfort: Contemporary Figurative Photograph of 1950's HousewifeBy Newbold BohemiaLocated in Hudson, NYContemporary figurative photograph digital C-print, edition of 10 30 x 20 inches unframed This contemporary c-print pictures a classic 1950's housewife in a beautiful pink dress and pristine white gloves enjoying a cup of tea at a beautifully set table. The seemingly innocent imagery is given a sinister twist when one notices the box of pink and white pills set alongside the tea. The viewer is left wondering why the pills are placed on the table. One can't help but become suspicious of what the beautiful woman has planned. About work: Photography as a medium has a dual character. Since its introduction, artists have used it to produce both art as well as document the world around them. For Chicago artist Newbold Bohemia, photography is a little bit of both: his photo series have documented real life issues, presented in staged, then manipulated images from his imagination. In his playful yet devious new series, “In an Ideal World,” Bohemia visualizes the story of a rebellious 1950s woman in the domestic world. Even the name Newbold Bohemia is a fabrication. The artist’s namesake serves as a reminder to create art dedicated to the pillars of Bohemian society: Truth, Beauty, Freedom and Love. All of these are present in his “In an Ideal World” series, set in a beautiful, idyllic version of the 1950s, where a blonde femme fatale-housewife comes to terms with life’s truths. As he captures her day to day chores, Bohemia comments on the not-so-idyllic reality of gender roles, and his heroine’s oppression and anger. Newbold Bohemia currently lives and works in Chicago. His award-winning work has been exhibited throughout the United States. Bohemia is currently represented by the seller based in Hudson NY.
